The Vlogist Life
The Artist Life have posted another video blog (vlog!) and would like you watch it, rate it, comment on it, remix it, whatever.
Fun note: one of the folks in this video was 6 inches deep in Avril Lavigne back when she was 17 (and still cute).

2 days left!!

I can't believe this tour is almost over! Big cheers go out to our new friends in The Riot Before and a massively huge thanks to A Wilhelm Scream for having us out on this run. AWS are definitely one of the hardest working bands we've ever had the pleasure of touring with. This has definitely been one to remember! The Canadians vs. the Americans but in the end we'll always be on top (get it?) haha! Couple of tour highlights: Staying at the EEHC jamspace, Thanks Jr! Nuno from Wilhelm trying his best to sound like a Scottish person (you can have it bach). Jake sleeping in the van in subzero temperatures, PSYCHO! And Ric being the best tour manager we've ever had! Such a rad time.

We'll be homeward bound after the Vancouver show so make sure you check out the dates we have posted on our myspace (Calgary, Kenora and Sault Ste Marie). Come out if you can!

Oh and I just saw the final cut of our new video for LSAR. It rips! Can't wait for all of you to see it! I guess it's see ya later for now but we'll see everyone soon enough as we gear up to hit the road once more this year with Stereos, Midway State and the Envy. Bring on the Winter tour, we're ready!

cheers and beers

Tour Blog!!

Hey guys! Sorry we haven’t been keeping up with the daily tour blogs but it’s been one hell of a busy time. We’re in the van driving through the Prairies right now. It’s day 8 of The Artist Life / A Whilhelm Scream / The Riot Before Canadian tour, which means I have a lot of days to catch you up on!

The tour started in London, ON at the London Music Hall. It was great to see the AWS dudes again and watch them tear up the stage, and we became pals real fast with the TRB crew. None of that ‘wait until a week into tour to see if these guys are cool’ shit, the electricity was instant. A few things that we’ve since learned about our new pals from Virginia: they LOVE barbeque, and were totally surprised that in Canada we can actually cook an alright barbeque, Brett from TRB drank a shot of olive oil at the party, and we beat them to our Face To Face cover of ‘Blind’. Apparently they had it ready for the whole tour but we broke it out last night in Winnipeg and beat them to the punch. Suckas!

The Toronto show was off the chain and we have to give it up to all our fans and friends who came out and made it one of the craziest shows we’ve played at the Reverb. Big ups to Stereos for coming and hanging out and a big shout out to Ian Stanger for coming up on stage with Dean during the AWS set!

Saturday was day 3 and we were originally slated to play in Montreal along with the tour. However, a very cool opportunity arose and we just couldn’t say no. We were asked to be on Degrassi: The Next Generation and as anyone that grew up in Canada in the late 80s – early 90s knows, you can’t say no to Degrassi! I can’t really get in to the specifics but I can tell you we had a blast! Just be sure to watch Season 9 to see your boys! Ok that’s a wrap, now get in the van! We’re driving all night to Montreal!

Day 4, we woke up in Montreal after driving all night and getting suuuuuper weird in the van, and were off to Quebec City. In QC we hooked up with the Silverstein / Ten Second Epic tour and had some pretty epic hang outs and watched AWS and Silverstein tear off the roof. Big thumbs down to the TSE dudes for bailing early on the night and leaving no steam in the tank after a night of statutory rage in Montreal. Thumbs up to Silverstein for feeding us pizza on their bus!

Ottawa was a killer show where we got to hang with our boys in Brights and were able to snag our not-so-secret parking space that is always miraculously free! After the show we piled back in the van to drive all night back to Toronto, so we could make our 9am call-time for our second day of shooting Degrassi.

Degrassi... again! So on 3 hours of sleep we showed up to the set of Degrassi. We were shooting “on location” and that location just happened to be Lee’s Palace, a venue which we had played just a few weeks before. How funny is this: At the show I just mentioned we left a road case behind which we figured was lost for good in Rock n’ Roll purgatory BUT we showed up to shoot this iconic Canadian television show and there it was... just sitting there, like it knew we would be back someday! The XR-12 is back in action! Play, play, play, lights, camera, action... ok CUT! That’s a wrap, get BACK in the van, we need to be in Winnipeg in 2 days. *sigh*

The next 2 days were spent driving through Northern Ontario, thinking our wheel was coming off again, stopping in the rain, getting weird in the van, laughing, listening to some sweet tunes (Dean’s 90’s hip-hop catalog), and having beach side hibachi cook outs, swimming at the top of Lake Superior, etc. No big deal.

Day 7 in Winnipeg we rolled into The Pyramid Cabaret where our friends St. Alvia had played the night before with Bouncing Souls. Winnipeg showed us some of their finest last night and we met a really cool dude named Danny who put us up in the hotel he manages for free. Free is our favourite word on tour.

A few things we’ve learned about Wilhelm thus far: Trevor talks extremely slowly and softly when he’s high, Nuno is completely blown away at the technology of the iPod Touch (his girlfriend bought him one just before this tour), every single person in their band is obsessed with Lost, Bri Robinson has TAL’s back in every situation, Mike Supina is the most polite person on the planet and is what every Mom hopes her daughter will bring home to propose marriage.

And that brings us back to Doe.... keep checking back for more blog updates!

Xo

Chuckie & the boys

And few other notes: Kingdoms, Protest The Hero, The Swellers, Stereos, and illScarlett all put out records, DVDs and/or iTunes singles last week, make sure to pick that shit up and support our bros!

LET'S START A CAMPFIRE OUT TODAY!

It's record release Tuesday and we're hanging out in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Day #4 of The Artist Life and The Snips tour has begun and although it's been a relatively slow start, we're lazily making our way out of the venue (which we slept in) and on route to Rimouski, Quebec. Our acoustic EP "Let's Start A Campfire" hits iTunes and theUnderground Operations store today and in true The Artist Life fashion we're out on the road once again! Our friends from Closet Monster and Stereos dropped by and did some sweet vocals on a couple tracks as well, so make sure you check it out! Also, if you buy it from Underground Operations you get a rad bonus track not available on iTunes

That's all for now from the road but make sure you check out all the tour dates up on our MySpace If we're in your city, come hang! The Snips are some of the raddest dudes we've ever toured with, we'll have picture updates soon. Tone played in his underwear last night, something ya just have to see...

Cheers and Beers

Let's Start A Campfire acoustic EP out August 11th

So it's summer and although the weather here in Toronto seems to be up and down like a toilet seat (a la' Mike Holmes) I'm still banking on the late July heat wave "surprise." You know what I'm talking about right? The day the air conditioner decides to crap out, your friend forgets to put chlorine in their parents pool and a water ban plagues the city. Sounds like a good ol' late July in Southern Ontario to me! What do you do to stay cool you ask? By cool I'm going to assume we're talking about the temperature and not your older brother's sweet 84' Camaro. Here's what you do; grab a handful of friends, a couple coolers, LOTS OF ICE and as many beers that can fit in said coolers. Hop in a van and drive to the nearest beach. Done. When the sun goes down keep in mind it might get a bit cold so if this happens "Let's start a camp fire!" It's easy really, just take four dudes that play punk rock, give them instruments that don't plug in and put them in a studio with a producer who is a musical genuis and a certifiable mentalist at the same time...

Let's Start A Campfire is the acoustic counterpart to our 2008 release Let's Start A Riot. But don't let the same five songs fool you we promise lots of surprises! Some of our friends decided to drop by while we were recording and took over the microphones so maybe you can spot the guest vocals? August 11th is when this sweet digital EP drops so make sure to mark it off on your calander! Oh and if you order the record from We Shop Underground you'll get a special un-released song not available from I-Tunes. Wink wink ;)

August 11th! Get stoked!

This Saturday we'll be doing an R.S.V.P. only acoustic performance for The Audio Recording Academy Toronto (TARA) that will air on AUX.TV. If you want to chek that out head on over to the facebook group and sign up! It starts at 5pm sharp and is all ages!

Ok, now let's talk about Cutting Edge Music Festival! Even better, how about the U.O. lounge at the festival!? We just might have a special acoustic performance along with some of our buddies in Stereos. Cover songs anyone? We're so excited to be part of CEMF this year and we can't wait to share the stage with such amazing bands like The Roots, Ill Scarlett, Protest The Hero and many many more! Make sure to check this out!

And finally, East Coast here we come! Vanna and Trailer Swift are getting stoked about hitting the road again and so are we! We'll be on tour from August 8th to August 22nd with our friends in The Snips and Brights so make sure you check out all the tour dates on our page and if we're in your town come out and high five us! And better yet, if you wanna help spread the word, check out the Sweet Team

I guess that's it for now... Actually it's not. Remember in high school when your friend would say "I have something to tell you... Wait, no I can't..." And after hours of coaxing your friend you would finally get it out of them?

It's kinda like that time... But not.

Hang tight. More to come soon.
see you at the shows!

Eastern Canadian Tour with The Snips!

Hey everyone!

Remember that tour announcement we mentioned we could smell coming? Well guess what... we weren't talking about the garbage strike here in Toronto after all! We were actually telling the truth. The Artist Life will be hitting the road for two weeks starting August 8th along side our buddies in The Snips and Brights! We're so excited to be hitting the road again. The last time we were out East was last fall on the Underground Operations Unity Tour which was also Means' final tour (r.i.p.). We can't wait to get back out there and see everyone again! Halifax is a hot spot because you can order ridiculous amounts of beer per person and it's completely legal. But there is more to life then just beer right? Check out our myspace for a complete list of tour dates and remember once you find your city make sure to high five the first able bodied person you see and then shout "The Artist Life and The Snips are coming! Yes!"

Speaking of The Snips, rumor has it they've been in the studio and have some new teaser songs up on their myspace? You should probably go check those babies out while you still can. They sound slick! Also for those who haven't heard Brights yet, check them out on their myspace! Continuing on the studio note, The Artist Life have also been in the studio recording our acoustic version of the "Let's Start A Riot" EP so cleverely named "Let's Start A Campfire." This five song acoustic special will be available online at the beginning of August so make sure to keep coming back to check when the official release date will drop! Summers and campfires go together like bad booze and cheap cigarettes. And cause we think you are awesome, you can hear the acoustic version of "Let's Start a Riot" at the myspace while you check out the dates.

Festival season! We will be playing Cutting Edge Music Festival this year along with many other amazing acts! And we will also be playing Rock The Mill in Cambridge! So many wicked things going on this summer, get stoked!

Finally, we'll be doing a special Headlinging show at the Reverb here in Toronto July 14th. There will be prizes for the first 25 people through the door and a chance to win a free pair of traditional Converse Chuck Taylors. Hopefully we'll see all of you at the show!

All for now but thanks for checking out the blog and remember to keep coming back for more updates!

cheers and all the best

Ian Here!

Welcome to the new and improved Underground Operations Website. It sure is perrrrdy!

Like Dean said, we've been busy writing away for the full length and getting prepped for all the great summer shows that are coming up! To add to that list we'll be playing an annual festival this June 13th in Kitchener, Ontario that we're so excited to be part of called Frankie's Song. We'll be playing with our friends in The Reason and Kingdoms and there are many other amazing acts as well! Stoked to see you all there! Remember to get your tickets as early as possible because Kingdoms might show up with so many road cases that they'll have to launch another block of at least 100 tickets to provide enough space for those jerks...

Stoked for all the new records coming out this year. Just bought 21st Century Breakdown from Green Day and I can't wait for both Rancid and Blink's new records too! 2009 is starting to rule! Keep checking back for more tour details! See ya soon everyone!

cheers and all the best

What's up guys, It's Dean!

I’m sitting in Ian’s home studio working on a new song with him. It’s tentatively titled “Burning”... I know, I know... Let the childish remarks about common maladies associated with male and female reproductive organs begin! Trust me, the song’s not about what you’re thinking! I did a lot of writing while we were out on the road so Ian and myself are really excited to hunker down in front of his computer and track out the new ideas.

We spent the first half of our evening eating cheese pizza and watching the Simpsons... both very necessary ingredients when getting those creative juices going. Now we’re working on a pretty cool song that I started writing somewhere in the middle of the prairies while hanging in the van.

In other news, we have a killer show coming up this Sunday (May 24th) in Toronto at the Opera House with The Flatliners, Hostage Life and The Video Dead. We're super stoked to share the stage once again will all those fine gentlemen. We also got confirmed for some really cool festivals this summer that everyone in and around Southern Ontario should be hitting up for some sweet times. You can catch us at SCENEFEST on June 28th along with Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats, The Flatliners and tons more and also at Cutting Edge Music Festival in Kitchener on the August 1st – 3rd long weekend alongside Protest The Hero, illScarlett, The Roots and Ten Second Epic.

Looks like we're in for a pretty rad summer! Stoked to see you all at the shows!
